MAIN MENU

When you load Hoyle 2, you will see an animated opening sequence. To bypass this sequence and go directly to the game choice screen, press ENTER or click the left mouse button.
The game choice screen lists 28 solitaire games.



To choose a game, use the arrow keys or mouse to highlight the title of the game you want to select, highlight either the Easy or Hard variation, then press ENTER or click the left mouse button to enter the selected game.

When you have chosen a game, the onscreen rules can be seen from the game screen by choosing RULES or pressing CTRL-R. When you do this, a window will appear onscreen with a set of rules for this solitaire game. There a refour windows of text for each set of rules. You can see the next window by pressing ENTER. To escape the RULES window, press ESC.


INPUT DEVICES

Using a mouse to play

Click the left mouse button on a card to select it, then click on the place where you want to play the card (use the center or right mouse buttons to auto-play the selected card). To un-select a selected card, click on it a second time, using the left mouse button.

Using the keyboard to play

Use the arrow keys to move the cursor in the arrow direction.Press the direction (arrow) again to stop the cursor. Press ENTER to select the card. To play a selected card, use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the place you want to play the selected card, then press ENTER to play the card at that place, or press the INSERT key to auto-play the selected card.

Using a joystick to play

Move the stick in the desired direction to move the cursor to a card. Return the stick to upright position to stop the cursor. Press the Fire button to select the card. Use the stick to move the cursor to the place where you want to play the card. Press ENTER (Note: could be the Fire button instead) to play the card.


MENUS

At the top of the screen is a menu bar containing several menus that can be opened to show command choices available to you. To utilize these menus using your keyboard or mouse, follow the instructions below.

If you are using a mouse, move the arrow to the menu name, then click and hold the left mouse button to open the menu. Drag the mouse to the command you want to select and release the mouse to execute the command you have selected.

If you are using the keyboard, press ESC to enter the menu bar. Use the TAB key or the right and left arrow keys to open menus to the right and left, and the up and down arrow keys to select menu commands. Press ENTER to execute the command you have selected.

If you are using a joystick, use the stick to move the cursor into the menu bar. Use the stick also to move between menus, and between choices within a menu. Use the Fire button to make a choice.

Each menu command also has a shortcut key command. The following table contains the menus, menu commands and shortcut keys in Hoyle 2.

VolumeCTRL-V Allows you to set the volume of game sounds when the sound is toggled ON. When no volume is chosen, the volume will be set to a default level. Note: Some machines have only on e volume setting, which cannot be adjusted by Hoyle's 2 sound menu.
Options MenuAnimation SpeedCTRL-S Allows you to set the game animation speed. Select Faster or Slower. When no speed is chosen, animation speed will be set to a default level.
Cursor SpeedCTRL-Z Allows you to set the speed at which the cursor responds to commands from the keyboard or joystick. When no speed is chosen, cursor speed will be set to a default level.
Select Colors/DeckCTRL-C Allows you to choose a background color and card deck for game play.
Auto PlayCTRL-P When all cards are in place to be played to the foundation, Auto Play will play the cards to the foundations automatically.
Rules MenuReadCTRL-R Allows you to read game rules onscreen. Each set of rules appears in four consecutive windows. Press ENTER to see the next window. Press ESC to exit the window.
DifferencesCTRL-D Shows the difference between the Easy and Hard versions of the game.
