Problem: windows 3x doesn't start after game installation
After installing the game under Window 3x under DOSBox and restarting windows3x, it displays the message "A device has been specified more than once in the SYSTEM.INI file, or...".
Solution: Open the SYSTEM.INI in your Windows 3x folder. Under the [386Enh] section, you'll see:
device=dva.386
device=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\dva.386
Remove the device=dva.386
Problem: CD music not working
the game uses Redbook Audio but you need to have the driver for it enabled in Windows 3x.
Solution: open Windows 3x Control Panel, click on "Drivers" and "Add" and select "[MCI] CD Audio" from the menu. you will then be asked to insert one of your original Windows disks on which the new driver can be found. Insert the correct disk and follow the displayed instructions. After Windows finishes processing, you will be greeted with a dialog informing you of the number of CD drives Windows has found on your system. This should be at least one.
You may also have to enable CD audio output for your soundcard under Windows. To do this, open the mixer utility, find the option to enable or disable CD audio output and make sure it is enabled.
Problem: the opening video doesn't show, but you can hear it
solution: In Windows 3x you need Intel INDEO codec version 3.2 for the video to work. You can download the codec here:
- download the ZIP file and extract.
- copy the ir32.dll file in your Win 3X system folder.
- Add VIDC.IV32=IR32.dll and VIDC.IV31=IR32.dll to the [drivers] section of your system.ini file.
- Restart Win 3x and the video should work now.
