Several games in the software box are references to other games. The box spoofs were written by Josh Mandel.

- "Boom" is a parody on LucArts' "Loom". The author of the original game was called Brian Moriaty, but is renamed Morrie Brianarty in SQ4. The parody box describes the game as having no interface, no conflicts, no puzzles, no other characters and no chance of dying; as does "Loom".
- "Sim Sim" from MaxThis is a parody on the Sim-games from Maxis.
- "Where in the World is Hymie Lipschitz (And Who Really Cares?)" from BroderBuns, is a parody on the Carmen Sandiego games from BroderBund. The person on the box is Josh Mandel himself with a fake beard, hair and glasses.
- "It Came For Dessert" from Enemaware is a parody on an old Amiga adventure called "It Came from the Desert" from Cinemaware, featuring a horde of really big ants. Another note is that the box mentions "Defender of the Crown Rib Roast", which is a parody on an earlier strategy game by the same company, with the same title - except for the rib roast part. The people on the cover are Cheryl Loyd and George Esparza.
- Cluck Egger lets you design a chicken and make it fly over real barnyard scenery. This is a parody on a flight simulator, called "Chuck Yeager". One of the characters of Space Venture, designed by the Guys from Andromeda in 2012-2013 is also named Cluck Yegger.

When using the elevator at Parker Center to floors 2 or 5, there's a queue of people blocking your path, presumably Sierra employees. The people standing there are randomly picked each time your reach the floor, but one of them is undeniably Scott Murphy, even referred to as an Andromedan. On floor 6, you'll find Daryl F. Gates, each time telling you a different line, including the explicit "Tell the media to go f' themselves". On the morning of day 2 (the morning after the alley crime scene), there will be a janitor instead.

Riller was here

About a third of the way through the "On a Rail" segment (level c2a2c), there is a place where you can go under a ramp, break a box and a grate and drop down into a vent shaft. Follow it and eventually come to an army grunt body. On the left side against the back wall is writing in the texture on the wall. Toss a few grenades at it to see it more clearly on a blackened wall - you'll find the name "Riller" embedded in the wall. This is a reference to Dave Riller, level designer of Half-Life.

When you call this number there is also a 30% chance that Al Lowe (designer of Leisure Suit Larry) answers the phone. He'll say the following:
Hi This is Al; Al Lowe.
Well, hello Sonny Bonds. I don't know how you got me --must have been a bad connection. But since you sound like a potential customer, let me tell you about a new game out.
I just finished a great game called Leisure Suit Larry Goes Looking for Love in Several Wrong Places (LL2 for short).
You'll love becoming Larry Laffer, who's a little bit like all of us - a jerk, a nerd, and a loser.
But you can help Larry improve his self-esteem by finding the girl of his dreams.
So how does it sound?
Well go to the nearest software store and buy a copy - the funniest and funnest game I've ever played - and I'm sure you'll like it just as much as I do.
If this sounds like a promo, it is. But then why else did you call me?
Please note though, that Leisure Suit Larry is NOT, I repeat NOT, based on my own personal experience.
I gotta go now. I'm working on my new game "Leisure Suit Larry III featuring Polyester Patty."
Oh, and by the way, "Have a nice day".

You can also call Sierra's BBS line (which tells that BBS is so popular that all 16 lines are busy): (209) 683-4463
