On Thursday, May 17, comic book artist and Sierra artist Ernie Chan passed away. Mr. Chan was most known for his work on Batman comics, as well as other heroes, such as the Hulk, Wonderwoman and many more. In the early eighties, he then started on comics of Conan the Barbarian and Red Sonja, which many fans consider to be among the best art of Mr. Chan's legacy. In the early nineties, Mr. Chan also worked for a few years at Sierra On-Line in Oakhurst, as guidebook illustrator for Quest for Glory 2, artist of King's Quest V and as animator, background artist and guidebook illustrator of Conquests of the Longbow.

We wish to express our condolences to Mr. Chan's family and friends. Rest in Peace, Mr. Chan. Your legacy will live on.

Sierra alumni say:

Marc Hudgins - I barely got to work with Ernie. He was at the tail-end of his time at Sierra when I was just starting. I was such a huge fan of his Conan and JCoM work, I was totally amazed to find him in Oakhurst working on games.

Trowsers Akimbo - What a privilage to have known and actually been able to work with this great artist. He leaves a vast timeless visual legacy for fans now and in the future, but a tremendous hole in the art world. Thank you Ernie!

Chris Willis - I had the pleasure of meeting Ernie at the tale end of his time working at Sierra Online. RIP Ernie. What a great artist..

Douglas Herring - I got to work with Ernie at Sierra, mostly on King's Quest V. Had a nice chat with him a couple of years ago, at Emerald City Comic Con. He was a great talent and I have all his Conan work. Rest in Peace Ernie!

Bridget MacKenna - Oh, I'm so sorry to hear Ernie's no longer with us. I enjoyed working with him at Sierra.

Robert Lindsley - Oh man, Ernie was a great guy. I also really enjoyed working with him at Sierra. RIP Ernie!

Corey Cole - I'm really sorry to hear about this. Lori Cole and I worked a little with Ernie at Sierra, where we were very impressed with his talent.

Barry T. Smith - Awww. I still have a framed 2-page Conan layout he did. He was such a super nice guy and a pleasure to work with at Sierra. I think the last time I saw him was an artist alley at Wondercon a few years ago.

Bill Shockley - Can't believe it, I just got in touch with him last month. Looking at his work on my wall as I type this. I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to meet him!
