How to play

The game is played using a pop-up icon bar interface. One way to display the icon bar is by moving your mouse to the top of the game screen. Select the appropriate icon from the pop-up bar and then click it in the game screen to perform the currently selected action.

The icons are Walk, Look, Interact, Talk, Lick/smell, Unzip, Item, Inventory and Options.

Walk: allows your character to move around the area or to a neighboring screen. Simply click the icon wherever you want your character to walk to.

Look: permits you to look at things in the game world, such as the screen you are standing in, other characters, or items.

Interact: allows your character to pick up or interact with items in the world around him. Ttems that are picked up are placed in Larry's inventory.

Talk: allows you to speak with other characters, animals or items (yes, Larry can talk to pretty much anything, though that doesn't warrant that he'll actually get a reply)

Lick/smell: first used in the Space Quest games, this icon allows to lick smell people or things - usually resulting in rather disgusting but funny feedback...

Unzip: first introduced in Leisure Suit Larry 6, this icon allows Larry to unzip and use his 'manhood' in some way, also usually resulting in funny feedback. By the way, no worries, you won't actually get to see his wang (no magnifying glass was provided with the game).

Item: stores the inventory item you last selected for fast and easy access. In the image above, Larry's wallet is the currently selected inventory item. When no inventory item is active, an empty hand is displayed.

Inventory: opens the inventory window - see below.

Options: opens the in-game options menu - see below.

There are three ways to access the action icons. The first way, as already mentioned, is by moving the mouse to the top of the game screen. The second way is by clicking and holding the left mouse button anywhere on the game screen for the radial menu to appear - this is a more limited version of the top toolbar (it doesn't include access to the inventory and in-game options menu). The third way is by right-clicking the mouse to toggle between the action icons.

The inventory

The inventory window is best described as your character's backpack, where he stores all of the items that he has collected during the course of the game. A window will appear, displaying all the items that your character is currently carrying.

To select an item from your inventory for use in the game screen, click the arrow pointer on the item. Your mouse cursor will change into that item. Click the OK button to close the inventory menu and return to the game. With your mouse cursor still representing the item, click on the character, object or screen area where you wish to use the item.

You can also use an item on Larry himself, such as his breath spray when other characters complain about how foul it is.

The inventory icon bar at the top of the inventory window consists of four icons:

Look: allows you to inspect items in your inventory.

Interact: allows you to feel or manipulate an item in some way.

Arrow: allows you to select the item you have clicked in.

OK: closes the inventory window, If you have an inventory item selected, that item will become your active mouse cursor, allowing you to use it in the game.

Note that you also can (and sometimes must) combine inventory items on each other in the inventory window in order to obtain new inventory items. To do so, select one item with the arrow pointer and click the selected item on another item in inventory.

In-game options menu

The in-game options menu allows you to alter various game settings.

Save: allows you to manually save the current game. If you die in Larry Reloaded, the game will automatically bring you back to the point before you made your fatal mistake, so no worries about having to play from scratch when Larry dies.

Load: allows you to load a previously saved game.

Restart: allows you to restart the game from the beginning.

Options: select this to set the overall game volume, enable or disable the music, chose between voice over, subtitles or both, and enable or disable Dialogue Auto-Advance. Other options like screen resolution, graphics quality and input device are only accessible through the Leisure Suit Larry Configuration window when you start the game (see above).

Quit: stops the game and brings you back to the main menu.

Resume: closes the options menu and returns to the game.
