On Monday, August 12, my wife and I had the extreme pleasure of meeting the founders of Sierra On-Line, Ken and Roberta Williams, near Pula, Croatia. A dream in the making for 25 years. Ken and Roberta had started their journey in Turkey and this was their turning point. We drove over from nearby Slovenia. Once there, Ken picked us up with the tender and took us on board the Sans Souci, their yacht, where Roberta was waiting. We talked about lots of things - their boat trips, Sierra Chest, Sierra Gamers (Ken and Roberta's own Sierra website which I manage in addition to the Chest), Police Quest, Precinct, the recent Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded release, the SpaceVenture Demo, Pinkerton Road, you name it, while also sharing some small personal stories. After also having received a tour around the ship, we returned to shore.
After our visit on the Sans Souci, Ken and Roberta wanted to visit the city of Pula, which was about 10 miles north of where their ship was. So there we were, all four of us and the doggies in my tiny Volkswagen. Unfortunately when we got there, traffic was a total disaster, everything was just blocked. Since it was really hot and we couldn't find a place to park after nearly half an hour, we decided to call it a day and separated ways. While Ken and Roberta explored the city, we returned back to Slovenia. Needless to say though, it was a day that will forever be burned in the memory of this fan!
Chances are good we'll meet again some day. Who knows, perhaps in Oakhurst next time?
