This only appears to happen in the release included in the Quest for Glory Anthology and appears to be a timer issue. If you play the game in DOSBox, you can get the point by lowering the cycles (CTRL_F11) to about 2500 or less. You'll still get the point if you already sold mushrooms earlier without getting the point.
