The Playtoons series combines an interactive story that is unique to each Playtoons title and a construction game common to the entire collection.
As in a traditional comic strip or cartoon for children, the collection proposes a series of imaginative journeys. The child reads, listens and becomes drawn into a script that will make them tremble with excitement or burst out laughing. The player can set off animations full of surprises and emotions from each screen.
Inspired by the interactive story, the player can then create his own animated story with the construction game. You can create up to 20 scenes set their sceneries, objects and characters, and have the characters interact with the objects. The construction game is universal, so the more Playtoons titles and Creator Kit add-ons you install, the larger the range of sceneries, objects and characters you have at your disposal. You can even create your own animated film with voice overs with the built-in camera function! Even though the construction games are universal, Uncle Archibald has a specific construction kit add-on, titled Monsters.
Uncle Archibald's interactive story on the other hand is unique for this release. Peter (the narrator) introduces his friend, Ben, who lives with his Uncle Archibald, who owns a shop. In Archibald's past, he wrote stories about witches, wizards, and monsters. He kept a description of each monster on his computer, which Ben and the narrator, peep at. One monster particularly catches their eye: Ogre Fringall, who eats kids with chocolate sauce.
Later, Ben and Peter are working on a chemistry project and add the contents of a little green bottle to their concoction. An explosion follows, a dense fog occupies the house, and the lights go out. Going to the kitchen, looking for candles, the pair discover a monster looking through the refrigerator, complaining that he was unable to find any chocolate sauce. It's Fringall! Although they manage to neutralize the large ogre, they also realize more of the monsters from Archibald's stories are roaming in the darkened house...
